An Analysis of Major Causes of Death with the Life Table Application


Abstract
This study examines the recent leading causes of death with life table application in Korea. In 1989, more than 60% of total deaths come from cancers, cerebrovascular diseases, accidents, heart diseases and hypertension. The life expectancy could be most prolonged by elimination of malignant neoplasms in males with 2.4 years and in females with 2.6 years respectively, followed by cerebrovascular diseases(1.4 years in males and 2.5 years in females) and heart diseases (0.9 years in males and 1.8 years in females). The implications of the results could provide useful information for the evaluation of the public health programs in the future.
